Pelican Advisory LLC’s SEC registration took effect on September 1, 2026, according to the SEC’s Investment Adviser Public Disclosure record checked on September 16, 2026. The firm’s CRD number is 330658 and its SEC file number is 801-137207.
If you’ve seen an earlier document describing Pelican as state-registered, check the document’s date. The public record, brochure and relationship summary have different dates and serve different purposes. This guide explains how to read them together without confusing registration with an endorsement.

Latest business disclosure filing reviewed |
August 25, 2026 |
The firm’s August 25, 2026 business disclosure filing supplies the identifiers and address. The effective date comes from the live IAPD registration panel. A filing date records when a document was submitted; it should not be substituted for the registration effective date.
Pelican Family Office is a business name of Pelican Advisory LLC. The presence of several names in the same record does not establish that they are separate registered investment advisers.
Why Do Older Documents Describe State Registration?
The brochure reviewed for this article is dated July 27, 2026. Its cover describes state registration. The later client relationship summary (Form CRS), dated August 25, 2026, describes registration with the SEC. The live registration panel gives September 1, 2026 as the effective date.
Keep those dates attached to the statements. The July brochure remains useful for reading its fee schedule and business disclosures, but its cover is not the source for the later registration effective date. An undated excerpt can obscure that distinction.
You may also see state notice filings on IAPD. Those are filings with state securities authorities by an SEC-registered adviser. A notice-filing entry and an SEC registration entry are different fields; neither should be used to invent a broader claim about the firm’s service area.
What Does SEC Registration Mean?
Registration identifies the regulator and the adviser’s registration status. It is not a recommendation to hire the firm, a verification of every statement in its filings or a prediction of investment results.
As the disclosure explains, registration does not imply a certain level of skill or training. The July 27, 2026 brochure also states that its information has not been approved or verified by the SEC or a state securities authority.
For your review, the useful consequence is access to a linked set of records. You can check the entity, read its disclosures and ask questions about the proposed relationship. Registration alone does not answer whether its services, authority or costs fit your needs.
How Do Assets Relate to State and SEC Registration?
Federal law divides responsibility between state and federal regulators. The federal registration framework restricts SEC registration for specified state-regulated advisers and provides statutory thresholds and exceptions. The implementing rule includes a registration buffer.
For the advisers covered by that provision, the implementing rule says they may, but need not, register with the Commission with at least $100 million but less than $110 million under management. It also allows an already registered adviser to remain registered unless assets fall below $90 million. Eligibility, exceptions and switching deadlines must be read together.
Pelican reported $119,006,151 in regulatory assets under management, all discretionary, across 265 accounts in its August 25, 2026 filing. Regulatory assets under management is the regulatory reporting measure of securities portfolios managed on a continuous and regular basis. It is not revenue, investment performance or evidence of growth.
That filed amount and the registration date are separate facts. The filing does not establish every step or motivation behind the registration process.
Which Service and Fee Disclosures Should You Still Read?
Read the actual service and compensation documents alongside the registration record. The August Form CRS describes discretionary investment management and financial planning. It states a $100,000 household minimum that Pelican may waive at its discretion, with an additional 0.25% charged if a household becomes a client below that minimum. The form does not specify the surcharge’s calculation base.
The July brochure sets out negotiable asset-management fees, quarterly billing in arrears and separate expenses. It also discloses variable-annuity commissions, insurance commissions, a mutual-fund share-class incentive and benefits received from the custody platform. The registration announcement does not remove those disclosures.
